How much do you know about Egyptian gods?
The four gods who appear in Book of Immortals – Ra, Bastet, Khnum, and Anubis – are among the most recognisable of all the animal-headed Egyptian gods. But how much do you know about them all?
Ra is the god of the sun and is also the king of all the gods, being the most powerful and wise of all of them. Being so powerful, many sources depict Ra as the creator of the entire universe – some Ancient Egyptians actually believed that humans were created from the sweat and tears of Ra. He is almost always depicted with the head of a bird (fitting for one so wise) but has also been depicted with the head of a ram, serpent, or beetle.
Bastet is depicted as a humanoid cat and is the goddess of fertility and domesticity. The daughter of Ra, she was thought to protect homes from wicked spirits and disease and was often prayed to in order to keep children healthy. Cats were highly regarded in Ancient Egypt (primarily for their ability to keep houses clear of vermin such as rats) which explains why such a highly-regarded goddess was depicted as such a comparatively small and weak animal.
Khnum was the god of the Nile and is commonly depicted as one of the most physically strong gods. Typically depicted with the head of a ram or a bull, he was thought to be a builder who designed the bodies of humans from clay. Many depictions of Khnum feature him standing with a potter’s wheel, sometimes in the middle of creating the bodies of children.
Anubis is possibly the most famous Egyptian god and was the god of death, embalming, mummification, tombs, and the underworld. Perhaps because of this, he had the head of a jackal or a wolf (which often scavenged in tombs and cemeteries) and is almost always depicted in black. His role was to guide departed individuals to the afterlife. During mummification ceremonies, priests would often wear masks made to resemble Anubis.

How to play
Book of Immortals has five reels with a solid 20 paylines, on which players can wager between CHF 0.10 to CHF 10 per spin. Four stylised Egyptian gods sit proudly on the reels, looking more like superheroes than their classical depictions. Four gods are represented here: the feline Bastet, the bird-headed Ra, the shadowy Anubis, and the horned Khnum.
